Introduction

This course will aim to lay the foundations of the anthropology of Africa and the southwest area of the indian ocean. For the first part, the course will begin with an introduction to the history of Africa (recall from ancient Egypt to contemporary history). Secondly, we will examine the links between African anthropology and colonialism, the way in which anthropology brought about a reversal of the vision of humanity. Thirdly, it will be a question of the link between colonialism and European imperialism in Africa and in the southwest zone of the Indian Ocean. We will approach this question from: - from British anthropology - French anthropology
