Introduction

Creativity is a vital human capacity that drives both professional and everyday life. It enables individuals to not only engage in artistic expression but also to identify and solve problems in innovative and effective ways. As Csikszentmihalyi (1996, p. 42) suggests, creative work doesn’t just occur in isolation within a person’s mind—it emerges through the interaction between an individual’s thoughts and the sociocultural context in which they are embedded. While some theories of creativity emphasize innate talent, constructivist approaches assert that creativity is a skill that can be cultivated and developed. In this sense, creativity becomes a powerful tool for shaping effective communication and content creation, especially in the age of digital storytelling. This course bridges two essential areas of human communication: the creation and dissemination of audiovisual content, and the fostering of creativity. It will explore emerging forms of multimedia and interactive storytelling, as well as the dynamics of convergence in the production and distribution of cultural audiovisual products. A key focus will be placed on hybrid formats specific to various media and the new production methods aligned with the Open Access philosophy—an approach that democratizes content creation by allowing anyone to become a producer. MAIN OBJECTIVE The primary goal of this course is to provide students with both conceptual and practical foundations for enhancing creativity, specifically in the context of producing innovative audiovisual content. Specific Objectives: 1.To offer a conceptual and practical approach to creativity 2.To explore effective techniques for developing creative audiovisual content 3.To learn how to produce a short video using a mobile phone 4.To explore innovative genres and new audiovisual formats 5.To examine the philosophy of Open Knowledge and the use of Creative Commons licenses 6.To investigate the potential of collaborative audiovisual creation 7.To foster teamwork and collaborative skills 8.To develop critical thinking skills related to audiovisual content and creativity By the end of this course, students will not only understand the theoretical foundations of creativity but will also acquire hands-on skills for producing creative, cutting-edge audiovisual projects in the digital era.
