1. Main Building
The Main Building is the first building you see on entering the front gate of the East Campus). There is the mailroom (on the left hand side just after the main entrance), and some faculty offices and classrooms.
Outside the Main Building, on the right hand side, there is an inconspicuous gate. Passing through the gate you arrive at the third largest classroom in the Main Building, which also serves as a study room open until late in the evening.

2. Sports Grounds
Behind the Main Building, you will find the Sports Grounds on the left and right hand side of the main avenue.

3. Culture Square
Behind the track is an open space known as the Culture Square, where students meet and student groups recruit new members. It is one of the most popular spaces with students. There are also ATM machines where students can also withdraw money from their bank account.
4. Thousand’s Auditorium
Thousand’s Auditorium, located in Culture Square, is currently the largest on the East Campus. Due to its excellent facilities, many events and performances are held there, such as the university opening ceremony, the graduates’ party, the International Business School welcome party, celebrity speeches, drama night, singing competitions, and fashion shows.

5. Student Center (Red Chamber or Hong Lou)

The Gymnasium building is located in the large building at the right hand side of the athletics field.. The main facilities of the sports center are the swimming pool, the gym and the indoor sports spaces.
The Swimming pool is located in the basement, and consists of a standard pool and a training pool. The admission fee is 8 Yuan, but students are required to undergo a swimming test to obtain permission to use the deep water pool. Information may be obtained at the pool counter. The fee for using the Gym is 15 Yuan, but buying season cards, or the annual card makes it is much cheaper. The basketball court (now primarily used for table tennis), and the badminton court (next to the basketball court) are located on the second floor. They can accommodate 1,100 spectators, and include color screens and scoreboards. Please note that the badminton court is in high demand and advance booking is required.
Although the Gym is very well equipped and caters for many users, it may be very crowded at times despite the efforts of the staff. It is therefore highly recommended to avoid using the premises at peak times.
The Gymnasium hall environment is very welcoming, and includes an air-conditioned chill out area.

7. The Lotus Pond
The Lotus Pond is also known as “The pond of Love”, an attraction of our school, as it is a popular dating place and many lovers will hang out here every night. Besides, students’ associations and clubs also hold regular meetings at this place. Some students also choose here to do some morning reading.
8. The BFSU Canteen
The BFSU Canteen is a three-story building including a basement. It is next to the School of Chinese Language and Literature. It provides various dishes from different parts of China. Here is a good place for you to explore Chinese food culture. 18 Yuan easily pay for quite a rich meal. The canteen environment is tidy and spacious and provides a pleasant atmosphere.
9. Sir Shaw Run Run Building (Yi Fu Lou)
Sir Shaw Run Run Building, known as Yi Fu Lou, is a comprehensive teaching building. It was donated by Sir Run Run Shaw who is one of the most famous philanthropists in Hong Kong. The building hosts basic courses in different disciplines such as Computer Science, English, Chinese philosophy etc.. Moreover, there are many self-study classrooms, so it is one of best choices as a place for self-study.
10. Chendu Garden
Chendu Garden is a small area next to the Main Building, where a sculpture featuring a reading girl is found. Chen in Chinese means ‘in the morning, and Du, ‘to read’. So every morning, students will come to practice their language reading skills in this place.
11. School of Chinese Language and Literature
The School of Chinese Language and Literature is located near the East Gate of the university, and mainly provides courses in Chinese to foreign students. It has two school buildings that are used independently, equipped with language labs, multimedia classrooms and other communication facilities. At the center of the lobby is a sculpture of Confucius, while all around is an open area intended for self-study.
12. Zayed Center for Arabic and Islamic Studies
The Zayed Center for Arabic and Islamic Studies was funded by the United Arab Emirates in 1994, and was renovated in 2012. It is a mosque-styled building with a golden dome, on the opposite side of the School of Chinese Language and Literature, and is the biggest Islamic Studies Center in China. The Zayed Arabic and Islamic Studies Center is equipped with a computer lab, an audio-visual laboratory, two language laboratories, and a reading room, It also comprises bright and spacious classrooms, more than 20,000 volumes of foreign language books, thousands of books and audio-visual materials, computers, camcorders, projectors and other modern teaching equipments to improve the teaching quality in the field of Arabic and Islamic Studies.
13. The Comprehensive Teaching Building
Entering the Gate of the West Campus, on the left-hand side is a red brick building built in 2013, known as the Comprehensive Teaching Building, which hosts many courses for international students. It boasts the most advanced facilities of the whole university premises.
14. School of English and International Studies
The building of the School of English and International Studies, was founded in 2001, is located behind the Thousands’ Auditorium. It was one of the first schools in China devoted to English Studies. It enjoys a good reputation both at home and abroad Manywell-known English-Chinese translators have studied and taught here. It aims at developing the internationally renowned major of English Language and Literature and at improving English competence in China, as well as strengthening relations between China and English speaking countries. SEIS has cultivated a large corps of ambassadors, senior diplomats and academic leaders, and made a great contribution to China’s reform and opening policy as well as to the relations between China and other foreign countries.
15. The On-Campus Hospital
The hospital of Beijing Foreign Studies University is on the East Campus. The school hospital provides treatment for the university’s students and teachers. It is a publicly funded hospital and located near the South Gate of the Campus.

16. The West Campus Gate
The West Campus Gate is a very large red brick structure, and is the landmark building at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
17. The Administration Building
The Administration Building of Beijing Foreign Studies University is located in the northwest side of the West Campus, behind the Library. Inside the Administration Building is the University History Museum.
The building spans on five floors. Its layout is as follows:

18. The Center for Japanese Studies
The Center for Japanese Studies of BFSU was established with the support of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and of The Japan Foundation in September 1985. Its aim is to promote educational and cultural exchanges between China and Japan. It is located behind the tennis courts opposite the athletics field.
The Center now includes courses for postgraduates, research laboratories for different majors and a library. Every year, foreign specialists visit the Center to carry out academic exchanges. Over the past 30 years, the Center has trained first-class experts in the field of Japanese Studies. It makes a great contribution to improving the relationship between the two countries.
The University Library is located in a prominent position on the avenue, with its unique façade composed of the word ‘library’ in different languages..
It boasts of a vast collection of volumes and is designed to provide a comfortable setting for students and staff to study and do research. It also offers photocopying facilities.
