Introduction |
This course, “Introduction to Sound,” is designed for students with little or no background in sound studies or the sonic arts. It provides an introductory examination of the history, concepts, theories and practices used in a variety of fields such as film, theatre, radio and art spaces. Our goal is to look at practical techniques to the art of listening, exploring the soundscape and documenting sound using a series of methods such as deep listening, sound walking and recording and to apply this knowledge of sound and sounding to an awareness of the role of sound within these different media spaces. We will also explore sound from both an ecological and sociological perspective analysing how sound plays an impact in our perception of different environmental spaces. Students will work in groups on a number of projects. |
