Introduction

In today’s globalized society, it almost becomes a norm as well as a necessity to know or learn a second language. This course aims for students who are curious about how we human beings acquire a second language. It explains in nontechnical language major issues in second language acquisition (SLA): how a second language is acquired; what the second language learner need to know; and why some learners are more successful than others. Interdisciplinary approach will be taken to examine SLA from linguistic, psychological, and social perspectives. This course may be of interest to anyone who is a multilingual speaker or anyone in the field of linguistics, psychology, education, and future language teachers.
