| Introduction | This course is primarily designed for the benefit of international students who have little or no Chinese and little or no knowledge of Chinese literature and culture. By studying a variety of representative works in the Chinese canon in the genres of poetry, prose, drama, and criticism, the students will acquire a basic knowledge of the literary as well as cultural traditions of China. For the convenience of the international students a course reader compiled in English is available at cost. The reading and discussion of the selected works from this reader will be supplemented by a number of extracurricular cultural activities such as visiting cultural places like parks, museums, galleries, tea-houses, attending cultural activities such as watching cultural performances like Peking opera, modern drama, and Chinese films. |
