Introduction

The course proposes first a sociology and an anthropology of education on Africa: This is to account for the academic knowledge that has been formed on this subject since independence. The course then focuses on showing the diversity of education-producing institutions on the continent; It is a question of learning and knowledge in a confessional context. The course finally gives an account of the content of the debates around the school to be built in present-day Africa: it is a question of restoring the controversies relating to the relationship between education and development.
